Youth Health Survey (YHS) - Secondary Schools and Junior Colleges

Share and Print

The Health Promotion Board (HPB) will be providing students who are Singapore residents (Singapore citizens or permanent residents) an opportunity to participate in the Youth Health Survey (YHS).

The objective of YHS is to assess the health and risk factors as well as lifestyle practices of students in Singapore’s schools. The information collected will be used to plan and evaluate health policies, programmes and services, so as to improve the health of Singapore's youth.

The study will be piloted in selected schools this year and will be offered to more schools from next year.

The YHS comprises of 3 components:

  1. Health Survey
  2. Health Screening
  3. Health Insights Singapore (hiSG) Lite

Health Survey

The health survey will cover topics related to health behaviours such as physical activity, nutrition, mental health, smoking and alcohol use.

Upon completion of the survey, students will receive a token of appreciation in the form of Grab vouchers (worth $10).

For more information on the health survey, please click here.

Health Screening

The health screening aims to provide early detection of chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, high blood pressure and/or cholesterol) among students so that intervention steps can be taken early if needed.

The health screening is free (cost is fully borne by HPB) and students will receive their health report containing information from the health screening within 6 weeks of completion of the screening.

Health Insights Singapore (hiSG) Lite

hiSG Lite is a population health study which seeks to better understand the health behaviours and lifestyles of youths, through wearable technology. The study will involve the use of a tracker and hiSG mobile app.

By participating in hiSG Lite, students will receive free health insights and a complimentary tracker which they can keep at the end of the study. In addition, students will earn rewards redeemable via HPB Healthpoints by wearing the tracker as often as possible, answering short questionnaires, and regularly logging their meals on the hiSG Lite mobile app for at least 6 months. These Healthpoints can be combined with points gained from other HPB programmes to redeem shopping and dining vouchers, as well as EZ-link top-ups.

As part of YHS, students who have agreed to be contacted for other research studies and data linkage1 to these studies will be invited to join hiSG Lite, if they:

  1. Participate in the health survey and/or health screening and
  2. Meet hiSG Lite's eligibility criteria
1Students will need to indicate their consent in the YHS Informed Consent Form to (1) be contacted for other research studies and (2) link their data to other databases and research studies.
